THE DAILY SHOW

a look behind the scenes of The Daily Show studios

There is only so much time The Daily Show has each night to cover the biggest stories in news and politics. For those who want to go beyond the broadcast, I and the TDS podcast team release an original podcast episode each week to give viewers a more in depth look at the issues covered in the show and provide some insight into what the process of making a daily news satire television show is like.

On this team I work as a lead editor and studio operator, making sure the final product is high quality from before I hit record to the moment I schedule the post.

STORK

producer - videographer - editor - motion graphics

content subscription service improving the marketing capabilities of small businesses.

In the role of Production Coordinator for STORK, a Vaynermedia service, I utilized my advanced proficiency in the Adobe CC suite to edit videos and design motion graphics & branding assets for livestreams.

In addition to these technical responsibilities, I acted as producer, organizing shoots, both remote and local, as well as managed the community of small businesses in which all of those assets were posted. I wrote all copy within graphics, posts, and community engagement, using a friendly and personal tone while maintaining brand voice.

Building from 0, I played the primary role in growing this program to over 300 paying members.

INSIDER INC.

food, culture, and entertainment in an approachable format.

Insider is one of the largest online content producers of today, with more than 20 million subscribers across all channels on Youtube alone.

While much of my previous work had been focused on very niche stories, at Insider I learned how to produce content for a much broader audience, with most videos I worked on reaching 100's of thousands of viewers, and a few even straying into the millions on Youtube alone.

As an editor, this role required an intense level of speed and proficiency with the Adobe suite to accommodate fast turnaround times and different versions of every video for each platform.

As a producer/videographer, the role required a high level of professionalism and self sufficiency, with very small crews working in esteemed New York establishments such as Keens Steakhouse (videographer).

HURRICANE WATCH

learning the mechanics of sport from the players themselves.

At a Football-centric school like Miami, our talented athletes in other sports often don’t get the recognition they deserve. Our goal with Hurricane Watch was to showcase the unique skills of these athletes and provide some insight into their technique.

To match the production quality seen in content released on The Hurricane’s biggest social channels we utilized sliders, drones, GoPro’s, and diligent pre-production planning. We were often running with a crew of just myself and the host, and with 3 or 4 cameras running at once, in-depth pre-production was essential.

WHY ARE TAXIS YELLOW?

lightheartedly recounting a forgotten moment in history that still affects our world today.

I spend a comical amount of time on Wikipedia learning those parts of history that never make it in to a textbook. Instead of just bothering my friends with this information, I decided to use my video production skills to maximize the number of people I could share these inconsequential moments in history with.

This self made video allowed me to explore the limits of my script writing, motion graphics, and non-fiction storytelling abilities. Human history is a beautiful mess yet is often shared in the most boring ways possible. With this video I hoped to humorously recount one of the forgotten moments in history whose effects are still visible today.

TELLING THE STORY
OF A PERSON

The incredible challenge of showcasing the depth of a persons efforts in a short video.

The Golisano Global Health Organization honors health champions and their extraordinary efforts toward fulfilling the goals, values, and mission of the Special Olympics global health program. I had the pleasure of working on the profile of one of the nominees, Dr. Stephen Sulkes.

SOUND AND COLOR

capturing the mood of life’s moments through video and song.

What started out as a test of a new camera became one of my favorite passion projects. I combined visuals of the present moment with songs that these moments reminded me of.

The process was relaxed and unstructured, a very pleasant way to preserve memories and practice videography, color correction, and abstract storytelling.

STORYTELLING IN THE NATURAL WORLD

editor - motion graphics

the rise, the fall, and the return of Miami’s ecological jewel.

The world of natural history storytelling is a beautiful one, and a world I aim to spend more time in. I was hired as an editor and motion graphics designer on this project for the Florida State Parks department, and appreciated the opportunity to add new life to archival footage.

A challenge of this project, as with all projects using archival assets, was melding these out of date formats and image sizes into modern video specs alongside crisp, freshly shot HD footage. In non-fiction works, this size difference between old footage and new frames is generally tackled using the Ken Burns effect, with a blurred copy of the archival image filling the space between the original image and the edge of the frame.

For a touch of uniqueness, I replaced the timeworn blurred background with a solid matte of varying colors from Florida State Park's branding. The wheel wasn't reinvented, but I'm proud of the decision to avoid the obvious, easy method, and try something new.
